Why Bomber Jackets Will Never Go Out of Fashion

There are very few article of clothing that have stood the experiment of time like bomber jackets, particularly the authentic short, waist length blazer modeled on those issued to World War II bomber pilots. Since they have been around for nearly a century, it is not very likely they'll be going out of modes any time soon.

The original flight jackets issued to pilots were designed to be highly practical. Bomber pilots flew in open level across continents, in freezing conditions. They had to have something that would holding them warm and the original bomber blazer did just that. Made of thick insulating leather, they had high collars that wrapped around, zippers up the front with wind flaps, elasticated cuffs and an elasticated blouse band. Pilots were also issued with leather gloves and caps.

While the first leather casing issued to pilots were more like long coats, the US Army's Aviation Clothing Board was responsible for issuing the shorter designs from closely 1917, just before the conclusion of the First World War. Although the long blazer were what British pilots had been wearing, it wasn't long before all the air might and navy pilots in both the US and the UK were wearing the shorter type. While designs did change from time to time, similar casing were issued to bomber pilots during the Second World War.

In addition to the plain leather bomber jackets, shearling jackets, with their warm sheepskin lining and exposed collars, added a new element to the fly jacket.

Pilots sent to other subsequent wars, including Vietnam, were also issued with similar bomber-type leather clothing.
Today pilots going to fight are issued with fly casing made in similar styles, but out of synthetic materials.

But apart from the army and armada issue clothing, bomber jackets have captured the apparition of both commercial clothing manufacturers and a large mathematics of manner designers who regularly include adaptations of the original designs in their new collections. And everybody loves them, from leading celebrities and cinema stars to tribe like you and me, which is enough to ensure that they testament never ever go out of fashion.
